PHD enters Shopping Centers Industry with Full Force
Cairo, 15th June, 2009 Palm Hills Developments (PHD), the premier real estate developers, are expanding into shopping centers by developing the first mall in Katameya. Strategically located opposite the new AUC campus, adjacent to the Palm Village Katameya compound, the mall with its distinctive merchandise mix is tailored to the needs of the residents of Rehab City, Heliopolis, Nasr City, New Cairo and Maadi as well as the dense college student’s community.

“This mall is the first retail venture for PHD; we made sure that we selected a prime location for it, strategically located across from the AUC and serving the entire Eastern Cairo community. PHD strives for excellence in all its developments, and this mall is set to provide its visitors a unique new experience in shopping, leisure and entertainment,” said Yasseen Mansour, PHD CEO & Chairman.

The project is set on a total area of 78,000 sqm, of which 30,000 sqm is for lease, in addition to a car parking area accommodating 1000 cars. The mall will include over 90 international brands from medium to upper medium brands one of the main fashion anchors will be operated by the Landmark Group, a renowned retail group operating regionally in the Middle-East Centre point, a two floor, 4100 sqm department store will include brands such as the Baby Shop and Shoe Mart, Lifestyle, and a Beauty B The second renowned international value fashion anchor will be New Look, covering an area over 1000 sqm.

The mall to date has signed with the several international & local brands that will be announced shortly; in the meanwhile PHD is securing more contracts through cooperation with the major retail groups operating in the MENA region, such as: Al Sawani, Naira International, Al Shaya, Shalhoub Group, Adidas International by adding their international franchises to the mall tenant’s list.

In addition there will be a variety of dining options including cafes, fast food, and casual dining with numerous outdoor seating areas overlooking the surrounding lush landscaping The dining facilities will include numerous chains like McDonalds, KFC, Hardee’s, Pizza Hut, Baskin Robbins, and other renowned chains to be confirmed such as Asfahan Express, Franchisca; several coffee shops such as Espressemente by Illy, Costa Coffee; and chains like Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, Carnivore, and Sushimento are still in the pipeline.

The mall will also include a family entertainment center set on an area of 1,800 sqm that aims to provide kids with a fun, interactive and educational experience. Moreover, there will be a cinemaplex with six screens with a total capacity of 1000 seats, a metro supermarket with an area of 1700 sqm and a multi-media mega store, operated by one of the major players that will enter the Egyptian market for the first time.

The modern, architectural design instrumented by Architect Shehab Mazhar capitalizes on the use of day light with a retractable roof offering a distinct shopping experience. The mall’s “enclosed openness” is abundant in natural light providing a 360 visual of the mall’s three levels. The appeal created by the design is unmatched elsewhere in the country.

The project will be constructed by UCC, the joint venture company between PHD and Hassan Allam & Sons; the second largest contractor in Egypt with unparalleled market credibility, maintaining the highest quality and construction standards. PHD has formed a team of experts and recruited experienced professionals to run the Retail Development divisions. The Retail Development Team is headed by Mr. Carlos Pena, Retail Development Director who has extensive experience and expertise working in the real estate sector.
